UP becomes largest sugar producer with 8.75 million tonne.

Uttar Pradesh has ended the sugar season 2016-17 as the highest sugar producer in the country by beating Maharashtra, ending the season at 8.75 million tonnes, a whopping 22.13% increase as compared to last year. The state also achieved an average yield of 72.37 tonne per hectare, which is again the highest. Last year the average yield was 66.46 tonne per hectare, an increase of 5.9 tonne per hectare. The increase in the yield has translated into an additional income of Rs5568.32 crores for the farmers. Uttar Pradesh sugar mills have produced 8.75 million tonne of sugar by crushing 82.474 million tonne of sugarcane at recovery rate of 10.61%.
