India’s output of maize in 2017-18 marketing year (Oct-Sep) is estimated at 25.0 mln tn, down from 26.3 mln tn in the previous year. Maize output in India may fall nearly 1 mln tn short of last year’s number due to dry weather conditions in the growing regions of south India. Acreage of maize in India has been lagging so far due to weak monsoon rains in the major crop-producing regions. Maize sown across 7.9 mln ha as of 8 Sep, down 4.1% on year.
