USDA arm pegs India FY18 rice export at 11.5 MMT.

USDA has pegged India’s rice exports in 2017-18 to be at 11.5 MMT, lower than 11.8 MMT estimated by the USDA. The downward revision in import estimate can be attributed to tight domestic supplies following unfavourable weather conditions in major growing states. FAO pegged India’s rice output at 107.5 mln tn in 2017-18 (Jul-Jun), lower than 110 MMT pegged by the USDA. The arm has also pegged a lower ending stock for rice in the country at 18.6 MMT, against 20.8 MMT estimated by the USDA.
