Uttar Pradesh government has set a target of 5 mln tn for procurement of wheat in the marketing year 2018-19 (Apr-Mar), 1 mln tn more than the Centre’s aim for the state. The state government bought 3.7 mln tn wheat last year, against the target of 3.0 mln tn. Uttar Pradesh, India will set up 5,500 centres for procuring wheat. Uttar Pradesh had also paid an additional incentive of 10 rupees per 100 kg last year to help farmers with logistics, but no such announcement has been made so far this year.
