Vietnam exported 4.05 mln tn of rice in the first eight months of 2017, up 22.7% from a year ago. Vietnam’s rice exports in August are estimated at 600,000 tn, up from 582,000 in July. In value terms, the country’s exports in Jan-Aug were estimated at $1.787 bln, up 20.3% on year. Vietnam is India’s competitor in the global rice market. The southeast Asian country recently signed a deal to export 250,000 tn of rice to Bangladesh. India could not strike a deal with its neighbour due to high prices.
