In continuing solidarity, Vietnam sent 1000 tons of rice to Cuba to help in the continuing repairs against the damages caused by September’s Category 5 storm, Hurricane Irma. The symbolic handover ceremony took place in Haiphong, North Vietnam, the same place where during the Asian country’s liberation war, it received sugar and other supplies from Cuba.
