Wheat piles up at Khanna (Punjab) grain market due to slow lifting.

Due to the slow lifting process, wheat bags have started piling up as the arrival of stock has increased at the Asia’s biggest grain market in Khanna. More than 32,232 tonnes of wheat has already arrived in the grain market, out of which 31,698 tonne has been purchased by various agencies. Sources said 6,244 tonne purchased wheat has been lifted, while 25,454 tonne lies at the market. The slow lifting is inconveniencing farmers coming to the grain market. The possibility of glut cannot not be ruled out if the lifting process does not pick pace. The lifting was slow due to the transportation problem. He said the payment for the purchased wheat is also awaited. Kamma says they are expecting increase in the number of trolly and trucks for smooth lifting and have been assured by officials concerned of proper arrangements.
