Wheat prices fell in Shahjahanpur wholesale market today due to poor quality of crop following frequent rains in Uttar Pradesh. Harvesting is almost over now but the rains that happened 10 days back reduced lustre and gluten content in the grain. Although mills are still buying wheat, the quantum of purchase has come down as the grain with lower gluten content becomes unsuitable for manufacturing bread.
