As per recent release (as on 29th Dec 2023), the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare states that Chana sowing is down by 8.3% to 9704.6 thousand ha. from 10579.7 thousand ha. at the same corresponding period during previous year.
Chana sowing in major producing state Madhya Pradesh is up by 11.3%, to 2317 thousand ha. from 2081 thousand ha. at same time last year. Rajasthan and Maharashtra, two other significant producing states, Chana sowing is decreased by 9.8% and 14.8% respectively. These three states together contributed around 60-70% of India’s total Chana production.
This year sowing progress is lower than last 5-year average sowing week-on-week basis. In current week this year sowing is decreased by 3.5% from five-year average sowing of 10,060 thousand ha.
