Brazil 2017-18 coffee output 52 million bags, down 4 million.
Coffee production In Brazil in 2017-18 (Jul-Jun) is estimated at 52.1 million bags (1bag=60kg), 4 million bags lower on year. Production of the Arabica variety in the world largest coffee producer is seen falling 11% on year to 40.5 million bags due to the biennial production cycle. Production of the Robusta variety in 2017-18 is estimated at 11.6 million bags, up 1.1 million bags from 2016-17, owing to expectations of a rebound in production in the coffee growing areas of Espirito Santo, Rondonia, and Bahia after three years of drought. For 2017-18, coffee exports by Brazil are seen unchanged on year at 33.03 million bags. Closing stocks of coffee for 2017-18 are seen at 3.88 million bags, lower than 5.41 million bags in the previous season due to the likely fall in production.
India kharif cotton area up 33% so far in 2017-18.
The area sown under kharif cotton so far in the country in 2017-18 was up 32.7% on year at 893,000 hectares. The normal area under the fibre in the corresponding period is 553,000 hectares. Cotton area in this kharif season is higher as farmers earned higher returns from the crop in the last year. In 2016-17 (Jul-Jun), the acreage under cotton had fallen 12% to 10.5 million ha on fears of pink bollworm infestation and whitefly attack, which had damaged a large quantity of the crop in 2015. Sowing of the cotton for the kharif season has commenced so far in Haryana with 463,000 ha area planted, Punjab with 280,000 ha, Rajasthan with 70,000 ha, and Karnataka with 50,000 ha.
NCDEX coriander hits 3% lower cap on profit booking.
Futures contracts of coriander hit their 3% lower circuit on the NCDEX and declined further due to profit booking, after prices rose to a one-week high of 5,619 rupees per 100 kg on prevoius close. June contract traded at 5,186 rupees per 100 kg, down 3.7% from the previous settlement. Prices of coriander also declined because of 108-tn on-week rise in inventories at exchange warehouses to 32,140 tn. In the benchmark market of Kota, Rajasthan, the Badami variety and Eagle variety both down 100 rupees from previous clsoe. Arrivals at Ramganj and Kota were pegged at 4,200 bags (1bag=40kg) down 1,300 bags from previous clsoe.
Chhattisgarh eyeing to step up paddy production by 2% this Kharif season.
Chhattisgarh, one of the largest contributors of rice in India, has set a target to produce 8.2 million tonnes (mt) of paddy in the upcoming kharif season this year 2% higher than year ago. Chhattisgarh, known as the rice bowl of the country, had produced 8.04 million tonne of rice and was among the top three rice-contributing states last year. Inspite of the increased target, paddy acreage in the state has come down by 3 per cent in the upcoming Kharif season in 2017. Paddy would be sown in 3.65 million hectares of land, down from 3.37 million hectares in the year-ago period.
CBOT CORN – Down 1 to 2 cents bushel.
Light profit-taking setback after a two-session climb tied to worries about re-planting due to excessive rains in portions of the Midwest. Most-active July corn retreated below its 100-day moving average in early moves. CBOT July corn was last down 1-1/4 cents at $3.73-3/4 a bushel.
CBOT Trends-WHEAT – Down 1/2 to 1 cent per bushel.
Market underpinned by excessive rains in the southern Plains and Midwest that threaten winter wheat yields and production. U.S. spring wheat crop was 90 percent planted. CBOT July soft red winter wheat was last down 1/2 cent at $4.33-3/4 per bushel, K.C. July hard red winter wheat last down 3 cents at $4.33 and MGEX July spring wheat last down 2-1/2 cents at $5.56-3/4.
India procures 29 million tonne of wheat so far in FY18, up 27% on year.
The government has procured 29 million tonne of wheat so far in the 2017-18 marketing year that started April, up 27% from a year ago. With wheat supplies coming to an end in most states, the government is likely to miss its procurement target of 33.0 million tonne and may end up buying around 29.5 million tonne. Procurement has already ended in Haryana 7.4 million tonne. In Madhya Pradesh 6.5 million tonne has been bought. In Uttar Pradesh 2.3 million tonne of the grain has been purchased.
Dairy body to buy 46 tonne maize via e-auction.
The National Cooperative Dairy Federation of India buy 46 tonne maize through a reverse electronic auction on Thursday. The commodity, which is used as cattle feed, will be bought on behalf of Sabarmati Ashram Gaushala. The National Cooperative Dairy Federation of India, which has nearly 200 dairy cooperatives as members, has developed an online trading platform to purchase feed stock and sell dairy products.
