Thailand 2.1 million tonnes of inedible rice sold in the latest bidding held.

Around 2.1 million tonnes of inedible rice stored by the state were expected to be sold in the latest bidding held yesterday by the Ministry of Commerce, leaving only a small amount of poor quality grade grain in the government stockpile to be put on sale next month. Offer prices ranged between 2,000-6,700 baht per tonne and depended mostly on how poor the quality of the rice was. However, the offer prices were well above offers in the previous bid of around 4,000 baht a tonne.

India Spot rice prices fall as traders cautious ahead of GST.

Prices of rice fell in the key wholesale markets of the country as traders liquidate stocks fearing demand may be hit after the roll out of GST as a 5% tax on branded flour will be levied. In Haryana Karnal market, prices of 1121 basmati sella rice fell by 100 rupees, and the grain was traded at 5,300-5,400 rupees per 100 kg. Permal raw variety non-basmati rice was traded at 2,800 rupees per 100 kg in Karnal.

Bangladesh to import 250,000 tonne rice from Vietnam.

Bangladesh has signed a deal with Vietnam to import 250,000 tonne of rice. Bangladesh will buy 50,000 tonne of parboiled rice at $470 per tonne, and 200,000 tonne of white rice at $430 a tn. The government had earlier planned to buy 1.5 million tonne of grain during the Boro crop season (Nov-May) this year. The floods damaged Boro crops, which would have yielded 600,000 tonne of rice.

India wheat procurement crosses 30.5 MMT, last year same time 22.96MMT.

Myanmar exports over 180,000 tonnes of rice in May.

Myanmar exported over 180,000 tonnes of rice worth over US$59 million in May, including over 72,000 tonnes of rice worth over $21 million. The country exported 39,115 tonnes of white and parboiled rice worth $11 million from May 28 to June 3 via sea routes: 6,430 tonnes of Emata rice to Bangladesh, 450 tonnes of parboiled rice and 150 tonnes of Emata rice to Russia, 625 tonnes of Emata rice to Madagascar, 250 tonnes of Emata rice to Andorra, 1,000 tonnes of Emata rice to Togo, 7,548 tonnes of Emata rice to Singapore, 20,000 tonnes of Emata rice to Côte d’Ivoire, 2,564 tonnes of Emata rice and 50 tonnes of parboiled rice to EU countries, and 48 tonnes of Emata rice to Sri Lanka.

India govt extends FY18 wheat buys in Rajasthan till Jun 30.

Wheat procurement in Rajasthan has been extended by a fortnight and will now continue till Jun 30. So far, the government has purchased 1.21 million tonne wheat in the state for the 2017-18 marketing year (Apr-Mar), nearly 60% higher than a year ago. Government may purchase 1.25 million tonne from the state by the time the procurement ends. Overall, the government has so far purchased 30.5 million tonne wheat across the country, up 32.8% from a year ago.

India Wheat futures edge up 0.50% on spot demand.

Wheat prices inched up by 0.50 per cent to Rs 1,614 per quintal in futures trade as speculators built up fresh positions amid uptick in demand in the spot market. At NCDEX, wheat for delivery in July rose by Rs 8, or 0.50 per cent, to Rs 1,614 per quintal, with an open interest of 25,360 lots. Analysts attributed the rise in wheat futures to fresh positions created by traders due to pick up in demand from flour mills in the physical market amid pause in supplies.

India Govt Jun 1 wheat stocks 33.4 million tonne, up 2.4% from a year ago.

The government had 33.4 million tonne wheat in its stocks as of Jun 1, up from 32.6 million tonne a year ago. Government stocks have risen due to higher procurement this year. Larger purchases by government are likely to take wheat stocks in central pool to a comfortable situation this year after they fall to multi-year low last year.
