NCDEX coriander up over 2% as demand exceeds supply.

Futures contracts of coriander rose over 2% on the NCDEX because demand from domestic retailers was higher than the stocks available with farmers and stockists. The most-active July contract traded at 4,983 rupees per 100 kg, up 2.4% from the previous close, after it hit the 3% upper circuit in early trade. India annual consumption of coriander is 320,000 tonne, and the amount left with stockists is only half of it. In Kota, the benchmark market, the Badami variety of coriander traded at 5,700-5,750 rupees per 100 kg, while the Eagle variety was quoted at 5,900-5,950 rupees. Prices of both the varieties were up 100 rupees from previous close. Arrivals in Rajasthan were largely unchanged at 4,400 bags (1bag=40kg).

Myanmar exports over 180,000 tonnes of rice in May.

Myanmar exported over 180,000 tonnes of rice worth over US$59 million in May, including over 72,000 tonnes of rice worth over $21 million. The country exported 39,115 tonnes of white and parboiled rice worth $11 million from May 28 to June 3 via sea routes: 6,430 tonnes of Emata rice to Bangladesh, 450 tonnes of parboiled rice and 150 tonnes of Emata rice to Russia, 625 tonnes of Emata rice to Madagascar, 250 tonnes of Emata rice to Andorra, 1,000 tonnes of Emata rice to Togo, 7,548 tonnes of Emata rice to Singapore, 20,000 tonnes of Emata rice to Côte d’Ivoire, 2,564 tonnes of Emata rice and 50 tonnes of parboiled rice to EU countries, and 48 tonnes of Emata rice to Sri Lanka.

India govt extends FY18 wheat buys in Rajasthan till Jun 30.

Wheat procurement in Rajasthan has been extended by a fortnight and will now continue till Jun 30. So far, the government has purchased 1.21 million tonne wheat in the state for the 2017-18 marketing year (Apr-Mar), nearly 60% higher than a year ago. Government may purchase 1.25 million tonne from the state by the time the procurement ends. Overall, the government has so far purchased 30.5 million tonne wheat across the country, up 32.8% from a year ago.

CBOT corn Up 2 to 4 cents per bushel.

Strength in corn stemming from new weather outlook that took some rain out of the forecast for the U.S. Midwest during the next week. Bargain buying also expected following sharp decline on previous close. CBOT July corn last up 2-1/4 cents at $3.79-1/2 a bushel.

Zimbabwe bans grain imports after higher maize output.

Zimbabwe has banned grain imports to protect local farmers after producing enough to meet domestic demand. The southern African nation’s grain agency has also raised $200 million from the government and private sector to purchase maize from farmers. The national treasury last week forecast output of the staple maize at 2.1 million tonnes this year, from 511,000 tonnes in 2016.

High air temperature was typical for the Bulgarian territory during the first ten days of June. In some places, the air temperature reached +30-33°C. Such weather boosted the agricultural crops development. In some regions, precipitation in the form of rain and hail damaged crops. Corn for grain had been planted on 411.52 Th ha compared to 415.87 Th ha by the same time last year.

India inks rice seed-sharing pact with 8 Asian nations.

India has signed a seed policy agreement which aims to speed up distribution of modern rice varieties across nations in South and Southeast Asia. The eight other Asian countries that are part of the agreement are Cambodia, Bangladesh, Nepal, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam. Modern rice types such as those that are climate-resilient and can withstand drought or salinity, help vulnerable farmers establish a secure food supply for their families as well as add income that they can invest in their own future. The institute has partnered with 17 rice growing countries in Asia and Africa and runs offices in member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and countries such as Bangladesh, Burundi, China, India, Mozambique, Nepal, Pakistan, South Korea and Sri Lanka.

Romania Corn exports over September-March 2016/17 are 19% higher year on year.

In March 2016/17 MY Romania exported 190 KMT of corn, which was a little bit higher than the volume, shipped in March 2015/16 – 185 KMT. Record volume for this month was exported in March 2014/15 – 461 KMT. Since the beginning of the current season (September-March) corn exports from Romania equaled 2727.6 KMT or 18% more than over the same period last season (2304 KMT). Over the reporting period share of third countries grew to 47% (1279 KMT) from 31% (720 KMT) during the same period last season, as Romanian traders opened the markets of Iran and Vietnam this season.

Kazakhstan Spring grain sowing will finish soon.

Spring spiked cereals were sown on an area of 14.39 million hectares as of June 10, 2017 (100.4% of the plan) that is 2% less than at the same time last year (14.68 million hectares or 100.1% of the plan). The rice sowing target in the country has already been exceeded by 11.4%. Kazakh farmers planted 103 thousand hectares of rice by the reporting date, or 9.8% more than at the same time last year (93.8 Th ha).
