India non-basmati rice exports likely to grow at 5% in FY18.

India exports of non-basmati rice are likely rise 5% in 2017-18 (Apr-Mar) from about 6.63 million tonne last year, due to high availability in country a bumper crop in 2016-17 (Jul-Jun). Dairy body to buy 7,500 tonne de-oiled rice bran.

The National Cooperative Dairy Federation of India will buy 7,500 tonne de-oiled rice bran and 2,450 tonne rice polish through a reverse electronic auction on Tuesday. Rice polish is the outer layer of a kernel of rice, which is removed during polishing. The commodities, used as cattle feed, will be bought on behalf of the Kerala Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation. The National Cooperative Dairy Federation of India, which has nearly 200 dairy cooperatives as members, has developed an online trading platform to purchase feed stock and sell dairy products.

Chhattisgarh eyeing to step up paddy production by 2% this Kharif season.

Chhattisgarh, one of the largest contributors of rice in India, has set a target to produce 8.2 million tonnes (mt) of paddy in the upcoming kharif season this year 2% higher than year ago. Chhattisgarh, known as the rice bowl of the country, had produced 8.04 million tonne of rice and was among the top three rice-contributing states last year. Inspite of the increased target, paddy acreage in the state has come down by 3 per cent in the upcoming Kharif season in 2017. Paddy would be sown in 3.65 million hectares of land, down from 3.37 million hectares in the year-ago period.

Production of the cereal was at 4.2 million tonne in rabi season, higher than expectations of 3.7 million tonne. Till now Rs. 3917.46 crores (39.17 billion rupees) worth of 25.95 LMTs (2.6 million tonne) paddy has been purchased from 4,45,373 farmers from 2,979 purchase centers. Another 1.0-1.5 million tonne paddy is expected to be procured by the end of May.

China top importer of Vietnam fragrant rice in April.

China has emerged as the largest importer of fragrant rice from Vietnam in April, accounting for 36% of the country rice exports. Vietnam exported around 140,000 tonne of the grain in April. Other major importers, Ivory Coast and Ghana, bought around 30,000 tonne each of the commodity. although Vietnamese rice exports to China in 2016 inched down against the previous year, the northern neighbour remained Vietnam largest rice importer.

Govt official sees India year to Jun basmati acreage rising 25%.

The area under basmati rice across India is expected to rise 25% on year to 2 million haactare in 2017-18 (Jul-Jun), as higher realisations have encouraged farmers to cultivate more grain. If the weather and other growing conditions remain favourable, the output might also rise. Basmati rice production in India is estimated to have fallen 23% on year to 6.2 million tonne in 2016-17. Due to shortage of supplies, prices have risen nearly 20% in the last three months. India non-basmati rice output in 2016-17 (Jul-Jun) is estimated at a record high of 103 million tonne.
