The National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India has offered 3,884.06 tonne of urad for auction through NCDEX e-Markets. The pulse is stocked at Central Warehousing Corp and other godowns in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Gujarat.
Urad down in Akola on high arrivals, moisture.
Urad prices in Akola were down on expectations of a further rise in the new crop arrivals in the coming weeks. Arrivals of urad in Akola are likely to increase to 2,000 bags in the coming days. Buying is sluggish currently because moisture content in the new arrivals is higher at 16% as against the normal 10-13%.
Urad down in Kalaburagi even as export ban lifted.
After rising on Saturday, prices of urad in Kalaburagi were down despite the government lifting the ban on export of urad, tur, and moong dal. However, rains in Kalaburagi may damage the harvested crop and support prices.
Maharashtra seeks Centre OK to start urad, moong buys in 7-8 days.
With prices of urad falling more than 1,000 rupees below the minimum support price, the Maharashtra government has sought the Centre approval to begin procurement of the commodity. The proposal follows the Latur agricultural produce market committee raising a complaint with the district collector that farmers were forced to sell the new crop below the minimum support price in the absence of government procurement. Farmers have been requested not to bring the produce yet as prices are low, but those in the urgent need of money are compelled so sell it at a lower rate.
Sebi considering lifting a decade-old ban on futures trading of tur and urad.
With fears of inflationary pressure in pulses having been abated due to a bumper harvest in 2016-17 and the government inventory brimming with around two million tonne of pulses stocks, the regulator is weighing the possibility of lifting the ban. The review of the ban has started but a final decision on allowing such futures could be taken after factoring in production estimates as areas under pulses are down by almost 4% from a year earlier. Prices of tur started plunging late last year as farmers, encouraged by record prices in 2015-16, stepped up sowing of the key pulse variety, leading to an all-time-high production level of 4.78 million tonne in 2016-17. This was 87% higher than the production in the previous year and far exceeded the target of 3.62 million tonne for 2016-17.

Prices of urad in Kalaburagi, Karnataka, fell as arrivals of the new crop increased amid subdued demand from dal millers. New crop arrivals of urad in Kalaburagi were estimated at 1,000 bags in Gulbarga.

STC Ltd has floated a tender to sell 2,362 tonne of imported urad from the 2016 Myanmar-origin crop. The commodity is at the Central Warehousing Corp in Virugambakkam and Royapuram in Chennai. Bids must be submitted on Aug 29, and opened on the same day. The bids remain valid until Sep 8.
Urad, moong up 300-500 rupees/100 kg on import curbs.
Prices of urad and moong rose 300-500 rupees per 100 kg in key markets after the government capped imports of the pulses at 300,000 tonne a year. The government has imposed restrictions on import to support prices, which continue to remain below the minimum support price.
Urad, its dal remains weak on low demand.
Barring a further fall in urad and its dal prices on muted demand, other pulses held steady at the wholesale pulses market. Easing demand from retailers against adequate stocks position on increased supplies from producing regions mainly kept pressure on urad and its dal prices.

Prices of urad were unchanged in Jalgaon, Maharashtra, because of subdued trade. Likely better output in the kharif season, however, did not have any impact on the prices. Sowing of the grain in the ongoing kharif season across the country was at 3.44 million ha, compared with 2.54 million ha a year ago.
