NAFED to begin groundnut, sesamum procurement in West Bengal in a week.

The National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation is likely to begin procurement of groundnut and sesamum in West Bengal at minimum support price in a week. It may procure 25% of the total output of the oilseeds in the state, which is among the leading producers in the country. West Bengal produced 201,900 tonne of groundnut in 2016-17 (Jul-Jun), up 6.3% from last year. The agency is buying groundnut at minimum support price of 4,220 rupees per 100 kg, inclusive of the bonus, while minimum support price of sesamum is 5,000 rupees per 100 kg.

Rajasthan farmers advised to continue sowing groundnut.

IMD Agrimet has advised farmers in east Rajasthan to continue sowing of groundnut, millet, maize, sorghum and pulses like moong, moth, cowpea. It has also asked farmers in irrigated areas of west Rajasthan to continue transplanting of rice. During Jun 1-Jul 12, east Rajasthan received 10% below normal rainfall, while west Rajasthan got 65% above normal showers.
