Canada’s Pulses Surge in Production and Exports

Canada’s pulse production is expected to increase significantly in 2024, with dry field peas, lentils, and chickpeas leading the way, according to a Statistics Canada report published on December 5, 2024. This growth is complemented by rising export numbers, underscoring Canada’s expanding role in the global pulse market.

Production Forecasts for 2024

The latest projections indicate a remarkable increase in output across Canada’s key pulse crops:

Chickpeas: Production is forecasted at 0.28 million tonnes, an 80% surge compared to 0.15 million tonnes in 2023.

Lentils: Output is expected to reach 2.43 million tonnes, up 35% from 1.80 million tonnes in 2023.
