Mustard acreage across the country was down 3.5% on year at 3.71 mln ha as of Thursday. In Rajasthan, the largest mustard producing state, sowing was at 1.47 mln ha, down 27.4%. Though mustard doesn’t need much water, the state did not receive any rainfall during Oct 1-Nov 8.

Mustard seed prices rose in Jaipur due to a fall in arrivals, coupled with rising demand from domestic oil millers and crushers. Delayed sowing in key growing areas and export demand for mustard meal also supported prices in the domestic market.
