coriander prices unch as demand, arrivals up
Prices of coriander were almost unchanged in Ramganj, a key wholesale market in Rajasthan, as the effect of firm demand was negated by higher arrivals. The prices of coriander are likely to remain steady in the coming week due to thin trade ahead of Navratri.
Pulses traders demand ban on import quota in 2018-19
With prices of most pulses ruling below the minimum support price levels, processors and traders have demanded the government to stop even the restricted imports by end of March. India has imposed a quota of 5 million tonnes on annual import of pulses, which if not terminated, will add to the already mounting stocks in the country. Export of pulses, which was not allowed for more than a decade, was also freed up last year. However, both measures did not help much to support domestic prices.
Centre OKs procurement of 400,000 tn chana in Rajasthan
The Centre has approved the procurement of 400,000 tn of chana and 800,000 tn of mustard in Rajasthan to support falling prices. The move comes in the wake of the state government requesting the Centre to approve procurement in Rajasthan, as prices of the pulse and the oilseed started falling below their minimum support prices. In major markets, prices of both the commodities declined because of a spike in arrivals of the fresh crop, while demand from millers was subdued.
Tur price up in Akola, Kalaburagi on higher demand
Tur prices in Akola and Kalaburagi rose because of demand from dal millers. Gains in chana prices are also seen supporting tur prices as both are substitutes for each other. Reports that Karnataka government may buy 364,000 tn of tur from 264,000 tn earlier to support prices of pulse is seen boosting ssentiment.
Chana up in Delhi on demand from millers, low supply
Chana prices were up in Delhi and Indore on demand from dal millers and on low arrivals. The most active April futures on the NCDEX were up 0.8%.
Indore soybean up on demand from crushers, CBOT cues
Prices of soybean rose in Indoredue to a slight increase in demand from crushers, and tracking gains on CBOT. Strong demand for soybean in the US is seen supporting prices on CBOT. Demand for soymeal from the poultry sector is pushing seed prices higher.
Mustard down on NCDEX tracking weakness in soyoil
Mustard seed contracts were down on the NCDEX tracking bearish movement in the soyoil contracts. Mustard oil and soyoil are cooking oils and are used as substitutes. Expectations of higher arrivals of the oilseed in the coming weeks is seen weighing on the prices of mustard seed. However, prices of mustard were up in the spot markets because of demand from oil millers.
