NCDEX coriander hits 3-month low on rise in supply
Coriander futures on NCDEX hit a three-month low due to a rise in supply of the new crop. The most active April contract of coriander on NCDEX traded down 0.4% from the previous close.Prices were unchanged in spot markets as higher demand for the new crop consumed the entire supply.
India ban hits Tanzania’s pigeon pea farming
Tanzania’s Sh537 billion ($240 million) pigeon pea industry is on a sharp nosedive after India banned import of the legumes from Tanzania in August last year. The unanticipated restriction is now wreaking havoc on hundreds of pigeon pea farmers and traders across the country who are holding hundreds of tonnes of the legume for lack of market. The price of pigeon pea which remained stable at between Sh1,500 and Sh4,000 in the last four seasons has drastically dropped to Sh200 as the result.

NCDEX chana falls before price deficit scheme launch
Chana futures on the NCDEX fell for the second day ahead of the launch of price deficit scheme in Madhya Pradesh, and also as new crop arrivals began in the state. Price guarantee under the state government’s Bhavantar scheme has made farmers less concerned about the selling price despite a significant lowering of bids by traders.
USDA raised its oilseed crop forecast for the Black Sea region
The USDA raised the forecast for 2017/18 oilseed production in the Black Sea region. The figure for Kazakhstan’s sunseed crop was adjusted upwards to 903 KMT (+153 KMT), while that for Russian production was cut to 10,362 KMT (-138 KMT). Consequently, the total Black Sea crop ended up slightly higher than in the previous forecast, at 26,515 KMT (+15 KMT). The total soybean crop was increased to 7,596 KMT at the expense of a 121 KMT gain in Russian production (3,621 KMT). The USDA predicts the Black Sea rapeseed crop to total 4,393 KMT (+51 KMT). A substantial crop increase is envisaged in Kazakhstan: up 54 KMT at 279 KMT.
