Prices of sugar rose in the key wholesale markets of north India as supplies were disrupted due to religious processions on some routes connecting western Uttar Pradesh to the national capital. Prices of the sweetener were, however, largely unchanged in key wholesale markets of Maharashtra amid lacklustre trade. The outlook on sugar prices in the long term is bearish on expectations of higher output in 2017-18 (Oct-Sep).

NCDEX chana open interest at 40% of total volume on day of relaunch.
On the day of relaunch of chana futures on the National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange, open interest in the commodity was at 40% of the overall volume. Total open interest in the active contracts of September and October combined were 6,990 tonne, while the total volume traded was 17,380 tonne. It added that over 180,000 farmers had registered with the exchange. The most active September contract ended up 0.5% at 5,330 rupees per 100 kg.

Tur arrivals rose in Gulbarga, Karnataka as farmers offloaded their supply on expectations of improved sowing in the wake of favourable monsoon in the last two-three days. However, prices of the pulse in Gulbarga, Karnataka, were steady as farmers refused to sell their stock at lower prices. However, price of tur will find support in the coming days due to improvement in chana prices.

India edible oil most up in futures; mustard rises 1% on spot cues.
Futures contracts of most constituents of the edible oil basket, barring degummed soyoil, rose on the domestic commodity exchanges. Futures of mustard rose over 1% on the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange noting gains in the spot markets. Prices of mustard rose in the key market of Jaipur as the supply was not sufficient to meet the demand from domestic oil millers and crushers. Weak export demand for mustard meal from overseas buyers, however, capped gains in prices.

NAFED to begin groundnut, sesamum procurement in West Bengal in a week.
The National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation is likely to begin procurement of groundnut and sesamum in West Bengal at minimum support price in a week. It may procure 25% of the total output of the oilseeds in the state, which is among the leading producers in the country. West Bengal produced 201,900 tonne of groundnut in 2016-17 (Jul-Jun), up 6.3% from last year. The agency is buying groundnut at minimum support price of 4,220 rupees per 100 kg, inclusive of the bonus, while minimum support price of sesamum is 5,000 rupees per 100 kg.
